Brief Background of Padova[]

Inception of the Project:

The idea for Padova was inspired from the real life city of Padova (Padua in English) and the rest of the northern Italian cities by a player called Aron, Aron is an Italo-Persian who loves to build and express his creativity in Minecraft. Aron has always wanted to build a sprawling city in the ideal Renaissance urban planning method.

The city, as of now, is following the inspiration of the ideal renaissance city with a bit of Baroque and Gothic inspirations littered in some parts of the city.

Significance of Padova to Everthorn:[]

Padova is a fictional city in the Minecraft server of Everthorn. The City of Padova was founded by Aron and Jake, two members of the Minecraft Everthorn Server. Its significance comes from being the Head Quarters of many institutions such ASAP (Aerondite Sea Associated Projects), BGA (Builders' Guild Association), CPCV (Communus Padavium Civitas Virginus). The city is also home to many citizens and visitors.

As for the lore aspect, Padova is a minor player in the lore of the server, though that does not mean that the city is void of lore.

History[]

Foundation Myth:[]

In the annals of time, when empires rose and fell like the ebb and flow of tides, there existed a mighty realm that conquered vast lands, stretching its dominion over a fifth of the known world. The empire was hailed for its grandeur, its powerful armies, and the wisdom of its rulers.

But within the opulent capital of this empire, a tempest brewed. A fierce civil war erupted, pitting brother against brother, loyalist against dissenter. Blood stained the marble streets, and the clash of swords echoed through the once harmonious halls.

Amidst the chaos and turmoil, a victor emerged—a leader who valued mercy over vengeance. He understood the repercussions of shedding the blood of his own kin, and so, rather than condemning his political enemy to death, he chose a different path—the path of exile.

The exiled one, known as Padavus, was banished from the capital, forever to wander the lands far from the imperial throne. With a heavy heart, he set forth, carrying with him the echoes of lost glory and the hope of redemption.

Journeying through unfamiliar terrain, Padavus stumbled upon a place that stirred a sense of familiarity deep within his soul. Two majestic hills rose before him, their peaks touching the heavens, while a sparkling sea stretched out beyond, whispering tales of distant lands and boundless possibilities.

In that moment of serendipitous discovery, Padavus realized that this land was to be his sanctuary, his chance to rebuild and forge a new destiny. He named the city he founded Padavium, after himself, forever carrying the memory of his exile and the yearning for a place to call home.

Yet, the gods, in their enigmatic ways, had not forgotten Padavus and his plight. They placed upon the city a protective fog, a shroud of mystery that veiled it from prying eyes. By day, a serene white fog blanketed the streets, shielding its people from unwanted intrusions. And by night, a somber black fog descended, concealing the city's secrets and guarding its fragile beginnings.

The flag of Padavium, a simple yet striking black and white, bears witness to the divine fog that enveloped the city in its early years. It symbolizes the duality of Padavus' journey—the light of hope shining through the darkness of exile, and the unity of a people who emerged from the shadows to create a thriving, resilient community.

And so, the city of Padavium flourished, its streets lined with grand architecture and bustling marketplaces. Its people, descendants of a fallen empire, carried the legacy of their ancestors while forging a new identity rooted in resilience, diplomacy, and the pursuit of knowledge.

The foundation myth of Padavium whispers of forgotten empires, political strife, and the indomitable spirit of a solitary exile who transformed a barren land into a thriving city. It captures the imagination and stirs the hearts of those who walk its streets, reminding them that from the ashes of the past, a great civilization can rise anew.

Early Kingdom:[]

The ancient records of Padavium reveal a story of rise and fall, showcasing the legacies of its early rulers. King Padavus, a wise and visionary founder, established the realm based on unity and justice, leading to a flourishing city. However, after his death, power-hungry Septimius Pullo seized the throne, imposing heavy taxes and instilling fear through ruthless actions. Septimius' reign ended when his brother, Nerino Pullo, assassinated him, but Nerino's descent into madness brought further tragedy and horror to Padavium. Marcus Lepicius, Nerino's nephew, tried to heal the wounds but was betrayed and killed by his own mother. The people, tired of tyranny, rose up, leading to the age of the five final kings of Padavium. The city stood at a crossroads, uncertain but determined to rebuild and learn from its troubled past. This tale explores the fragility of power, the consequences of ambition, and the resilience of a people seeking sovereignty. The future remains uncertain, but Padavium's inhabitants are prepared for the challenges ahead, aware that their history shapes their destiny.

Decline and End:[]

After the assassination of Marcus Lecipius, the people of Padavium rose up against the aristocracy and established a new governance structure. The Peoples' Senate represented the will of the people, and the King's Men selected Forletto Valetti as the new king. Under Forletto's rule, Padavium experienced prosperity and pursued peaceful relations with neighboring nations. However, after Forletto's death, Karthadasht sought to expand its influence and demanded unfavorable terms from Padavium. Padavium refused and prepared to defend its sovereignty. The kingdom fortified its borders, rallied its citizens, and sought alliances. King Alesso Macetto led Padavium with determination, investing in the well-being of the people while facing the ongoing conflict with Karthadasht. Padavium's resilience and unity remained strong as they fought to preserve their homeland and the legacies of their fallen leaders.

Padavium faced threats from neighboring nations, Sollas and Noctria. Sollas desired access to Padavium's western coast, while Noctria aimed to conquer or destroy Padavium. Noctria sought assistance from Karthadasht, a naval empire looking to expand its influence. General Alesso devised a plan to defend Padavium's coast, constructing walls and forts. He also sent spies to infiltrate Sollas and spread propaganda. Alesso captured a fort's general and coerced him to write a letter, causing Sollas to send reinforcements to their border. Alesso ambushed the reinforcements, defeating them with fallen trees and fire. Panic spread in Sollas, and Alesso's forces took control of the city. The people of Sollas overthrew their old dynasty, and Alesso merged Sollas into the expanding Empire of Padavium. The two nations became one under Alesso Macetto, and the war of the continents continued.

Alesso Macetti, now known as the "Reformer King," implemented sweeping changes to integrate Sollas into Padavium. He abolished tariffs, lowered taxes, and introduced Padavium's currency in Sollas. Alesso forgave Sollas' debts to Padavium, sold off overseas territories, and tripled compensation for fallen soldiers. The citizens hailed him as their leader.

Alesso set his sights on Noctria and devised a plan. He misled Noctria into thinking Sollas' ships would attack, while his army constructed a fort to block a mountain passage. Noctria, unable to reach Padavium by sea, attempted passage through the corridor. Alesso's army ambushed them, and a clash ensued, leading to the death of Noctria's king. Noctria's Senate surrendered, and the people welcomed Alesso as their ruler.

Alesso implemented reforms in Noctria, improving the economy, infrastructure, education, and social welfare. He established a council and fostered unity among the city-states. Alesso ensured Noctria's freedom while preventing hostility towards Padavium. His title "Generous and Just" highlighted his fair leadership.

However, some generals grew envious, questioning Alesso's choices. Alesso faced a decision regarding the naval power of Karthadasht and sought a diplomatic solution. He convened a council, encouraged sobriety, and weighed his options.

Alesso recognized the potential consequences of a conflict with Karthadasht and aimed to come out on top in the power struggle.

Alesso Macetti and his generals discussed their plans for the upcoming campaign against Karthadasht. Different strategies were proposed, but Alesso ultimately devised a plan to choke Karthadasht economically by capturing the exits of the Aerondite Sea. He fitted Padavium ships with hooks to latch onto Karthadasht's vessels, turning the naval battle into a land battle. The plan was successful, and Karthadasht sought peace.

However, tensions rose during the peace talks when Hamilbar Pulchi, the temporary leader of Karthadasht, disrespected Alesso. In a fit of rage, Alesso murdered Hamilbar and executed the entire senate of Karthadasht. Alesso offered the citizens a chance to evacuate, but their fear prevented them from accepting. Alesso destroyed Karthadasht, sowed the land with salt, and plundered the city.

Tragically, Alesso fell gravely ill and died at a young age. On his deathbed, he expressed his final wishes, including fair treatment of neighboring nations, multiculturalism, promotion of good over evil, and serving the people. He entrusted the selection of his successor to the People's Senate and the King's men, who would elect a new leader known as a Gonfalon. Alesso was mourned for 40 days and 40 nights, and his passing marked a significant loss for the realm.
